Here we are at the end of week 4 our our journey in Ukraine. We have been in country for 26 days. There is a great possibility that we will not have court until the week of October 3. That means we will have been in country for 6 weeks. We will come home after court, and 6 weeks in the country without the boys. Doug will still need to make a trip back to Ukraine to pick up the boys and complete paperwork.
We never dreamed we would be in Ukraine for a total of 8 weeks for our adoption. In 2007 we thought 42 days was a ridiculously long time, and we came home with Hannah after those 42 days! We did not expect to pay for an apartment ($60/night) for 6 weeks on the first trip, or $50/ride to the orphanage to see Max. We have been very careful how we spend our money in country, knowing that we still have some big expenses ahead of us. We still need to pay for passports (we are being told those will cost $600/child) and medicals for the boys ($150/child) and Visa fees at the Embassy ($404/child)-- that's $2,300. This doesn't even touch airfare for Doug and his Mom to return to get the boys and fly home. (our tickets were $760/ticket, one way).
I'm overwhelmed, but have to rest in that the Lord would not have brought us this far just to leave us stranded. And I know without a doubt, that we are not alone. He is with us every step of the way.

I'm sorry. We too were in country for what seemed like forever so I KNOW what you are going through. It does pass. You will look back a year from now and will be encouraging others behind you!! Hang in and know that we are praying for you.

I am so sorry you guys are having to be there so long. I know you miss your girls and I bet they miss you like crazy too.
I hope and pray that you guys get a court date soon. Will you guys come home for 10 day period or is the wait time longer in their region? I assume that Doug can fly back and be there on the
10th or 11th day to pick up the boys.
I wish so badly that the Judge would waive the 10day waiting period since you have been there so long already.
I know it is not likely but we all can pray for it anyway.
I cannot wait until you get all your kids home under one roof and can start figuring out your new normal.
Will Max start school right away, or how will that work out? Will they test him to see what grade level he really is at? I am sure it is hard to bring home an older child because you have no idea what he has or has not learned in school and you do not want to put them in classes that are to hard for them.
My hat goes off to you, but I also know that you have loved this boy like he was your own for several years now, and I am praying that he legally becomes yours in the next week.
